Team Profile

Mumtaz Khan

Founder and CEO of MEACP is a recognized leader in private equity in the Middle East and Asia. He was the key person to establish the US$ 730 million Islamic Development Bank Infrastructure Fund (IDB Fund) and served as Chairman and CEO of EMP Bahrain, Manager of the IDB Fund, for eight years. He was also for two years the CEO of Asma Capital Partners B.S.C.(c), the manager of the US$ 750 million IDB Infrastructure Fund II and Chairman of the Investment Committee. The IDB Infrastructure Funds are supported by leading GCC institutional investors.

 

He founded Middle East & Asia Capital Partners (“MEACP”), a private equity platform, connecting the Middle East and Asia. He initiated the US$ 250 million  MEACP Clean Energy Fund for Asia.

 

He served as a Managing Director at EMP Global in Washington D.C. and for three years was based in Hong Kong as a Managing Director for the US$ 1.1 billion AIG Asian Infrastructure Fund.

 

Prior to that, he was with IFC for 14 years and served as Resident Representative based in Jakarta. He served as a Manager in IFC’s Asia Department and pioneered IFC’s program in China. He played a key role in establishing the first Islamic bank in Singapore, a joint venture between Development Bank of Singapore (DBS) and prominent Middle East investors. Mr. Khan is a founding shareholder of the Islamic Bank of Asia.

 

He served on the Board of the following project companies; Saudi International Petrochemical Company, Advanced Polypropylene Company, petrochemical companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, TAV, Akfen Holding, a leading infrastructure company in Turkey, AES Oasis, a power development company based in Dubai, and Air Asia, the first low cost carrier in Asia. He was an Advisor to the Minister of Oil of the Kingdom of Bahrain and initiated an Energy Platform for Private Equity investment in Energy Projects in the Middle East and Asia, including renewable energy.

Team Profile

Emaad Salam  

Partner and Managing Director MEACP is an experienced Private Equity investment professional with over 18 years experience and a strong track record in direct investments, co-investments and Fund of Funds across US, Europe, Asia, ANZ, LATAM and Africa.

He currently manages the global co-investment program for a leading KSA firm with USD 6 billion assets under management. He closed 20+ co-investment transactions in US, UK, China, India, Korea and Brazil across multiple

sectors and achieved a return in excess of 25% IRR across the entire portfolio. He also serves on the Asset Management Committee for the private equity fund of fund program.

 

Previously he was Managing Director, heading investments for a Singapore based Family Office with significant assets focused on Private Equity investments across China and South East Asia. Established processes and policies to institutionalize the investment platform and originated and evaluated over 30 transactions across sectors including financial services, real estate, food & agribusiness.

 

He spent 8 years as part of the private equity investment team for Deutsche Asset Management (Singapore), focusing on investments across emerging markets and agribusiness. He has a MSc Finance from CASS Business School (City University London) and BSc (Hons) Business Management from Kings College London (University of London).
